Sunday Kids' Labs | 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM | Larkspur

This year at ODTUG Kscope17, we’ll be hosting our first ever Sunday Kids' Labs! Three age-specific sessions will be held in Larkspur for 4-7, 8-11, and 12+ year-olds with fun and educational labs developed for a group of young coders in Atlanta, GA known as “The Vine City Code Crew.” The 4 to 7 and 8 to 11 year-old classes will last one hour, while the 12 and above class will last 1.5 hours. Adult volunteers are also needed for each session.

The youngest aspiring coders will learn a bit about how to make a very simple computer game or animation in a programming tool called Scratch. The older coders will write a little Python program to make big magic happen within a Minecraft world! The labs will all be powered on a simple, tiny computer device known as a Raspberry Pi – a mini computer that’s small enough to fit in a paper cup. Sound like fun!?

The Vine City Code Crew hopes to encourage and inspire kids to pursue continuing education in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) and give them a picture of what it might look like to have a rewarding and prosperous career in a technology field! For more information on the Vine City Code Crew, visit www.vinecitycodecrew.org. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required.

Please register by age group:

Age 4-7 years: 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

Age 8-11 years: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Age 12+ years: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Geek Game Night - Whose Deck is it Anyway? | 8:30 - 9:00 PM | Cibolo Canyon 2/3/4

Howdy, y'all, and welcome to the very first ODTUG Kscope Geek Game Night! Join us after the Sunday night Welcome Fiesta as we continue the fun through a formal geek on! This year's inaugural game night will include a competition called "Whose Deck is it Anyway?" where one speaker from each ODTUG community will have to blindly present on a completely different community's technology! They won't know in advance which deck they'll get...and you won't either.

But what's even more fun than watching impromptu technology speech blunders is also judging “them” poor folks for it! Judges will evaluate presenters on 3 criteria:

  1. Perceived knowledge of the topic (1-3 points)
  2. Audience consciousness (1-3 points)
  3. Level of Epic-ness (1-4 points)

And best of all...presenters will compete for the ultimate prize of...Braggin' Rights! Come join us now, ya’ hear? You don't wanna’ miss Geek Game Night!

Werewolf | 10:30 PM | Cibolo Canyon 6/7

Werewolf has become a part of Kscope's annual networking fun and connecting. This year, we'll be hosting three nights of Werewolf in Cibolo Canyon 6/7. If you've never played this interactive party game of deduction (and deceit), it's easy to learn and the best way to catch on is to show up and play! Many attendees agree playing Werewolf (even in lieu of sleep) is the most fun they had at ODTUG Kscope, so make sure you arrive at 10:30 PM Sunday night for the first game. All you need to bring is yourself! We're having special guest moderators each night, and Sunday's session will be run by Edward Roske. Join us whether you're looking for fun, for connections, for a break, or for no discernible reason. Just make sure you join us!
